Copyright is a law which is used by most Governments and in the United Kingdom it is a British Parliamentary law which is covered by the Copyright, Deigns and Patents Act 1988 which orginated in 1710 to put in place preventing other people using other peoples material without their permission. Copyright is used in the music industry in order to protect artists songs, videos and concepts of which are used in a particular way of which states that it 'gives the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time.'. This is atime limit of 60 years in the music industry.
As we are making a music video its important we get copyright permission off Jason Mraz for the song 'I Won't Give Up' in order to use his song within our coursework. This is essential that we apply for copyright as if we were to use his song without permission this could be classed as an illegal offense due to us prepareing the material to be used in the music industry (officially legally we can use the Fair Use Policy) which could result in a very large fine on top of the infringer paying for court costs, the infringer could also be sentenced to serve time in jail.
Therefore, making this researching and planning into copyright has increased our knowledge about the Music Industry and the way it is controlled to make us fully aware of the punishments. This means that to prevent any of this happening our group we have sent documentation to Altantic Rercords asking for permission to use the Jason Mraz song as they have Jason under contact for any material he produces.
